Royal Holloway University of London – Student recreation hall

The Royal Holloway University of London prides itself on being a pioneering university, steeped in history and culture, yet constantly evolving and adapting to the demands of modern higher education.

Working directly with the University, Hand Deere & Cox Consulting and KPL Electrical this project required the complete refurbishment of the entire student recreation floor which included the replacement of the old fluorescent lighting, which had no controls fitted.

LiGO Smart lighting solutions were specified for the controls of the newly installed LED light fixtures, along with four seven button scene switches, MSensors and microwave sensors all controlled via the LiGO hardware which was also integrated to the on site BMS.

The area was split into two main lighting zones to operate for different activities, with the four scene plates providing specific lighting levels in four zones with separate bulkhead functionality.

LiGO hardware’s built in functionality enabled the different lighting scenes to be pre programmed to change at the push of a button on a scene switch enabling the set up and commissioning to be done quickly and easily.

Changes and adjustments to the lighting levels, scene settings, timings etc. are easily made in the LiGO hardware, meaning improvements and fine tuning of the lighting can be made quickly, on site without the need for specialist engineers.

The LED lighting is a huge improvement over the old flourescent lights and the end users now have full control of the lighting levels and zones in the areas for the variety of different activities which take place. This provides students with a better environment to work, meet and enjoy their time within the recreational area.

FUNCTIONALITY

Daylight Balancing

External light not only allows you to create a more natural, enjoyable environment, it’s also free. Automatic switching or dimming ensures light levels respond to maximise and compliment the available daylight.

Scene Setting

Light levels and effects can be programmed according to the changing uses of a building, these can then be automatically programmed, controlled via web log-in or changed at the touch of a button.

Integration

LiGO multi protocol connectivity, including cloud connectivity via MQTT/Rest/FTP. LiGO is easily integrated into Building Management Systems (BMS) or any open protocol third party system. Furthermore data from energy and key variables within your LiGO lighting system can be passed to our iNSIGHT Solutions for monitoring and analysis.
